The Makerie

The best way I can think to start of my new blog is with the place that inspired me to get moving! This past April I attended The Makerie in Boulder, CO and it was fantastic. Not only was the setting spectacular, but it was four days of creative teachers sharing their knowledge, fabulous food and artful touches that would inspire anyone.

Whenever I’m around artists, I get this feeling I’m with ‘my people’- creative folks who see the world a little differently and relish even the tiniest creative effort.

I spent two days taking photography and food styling classes from the super talented and gracious Aran Goyoaga.  She makes food styling look easy. After a few hours of lessons, she let our class loose on a table full of fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade soups, fresh breads and an apple tart she made just for us to play with! It was not easy- and capturing the light like she does takes a lot of practice. But it gives me something to aspire to. The technical photography pointers she showed us presented many ah-ha moments for me, “ah, so that’s how that works!” Fabulous.

All the instructors had figured out how to make their living from their art,  someday I hope to figure that out too.

We had beautiful blue skies and warm sun- a welcome break to the dreary Northwest gray and rain
